Fall is upon us and we have busy renovating our Uvalde Workforce Center to make it more functional and aesthetically inviting. When completed, it will include two large training rooms with state-of-the-art equipment, a Board Room, and a business service center for employers. The first thing customers will notice is an open space that features new individual workstations where they can register in our state job bank where their next dream job is awaiting. The renovation is expected to be completed sometime in January 2020. We can’t wait to see you there!
We have been working closely with SWTJC and Rio Grande College in bringing a variety of training opportunities to you. They include Lineman Training, CDL, LVN & RN training, Welding and much more. Stop by your nearest Workforce Center and find out how you can qualify to receive financial assistance.
In my previous update, I mentioned that we had purchased equipment through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission. The equipment will be used to bring workforce services through a Virtual Access System to underserved rural communities in the Middle Rio Grande region. Citizens can search for jobs and attend virtual Job Readiness seminars without having to make the drive to a Workforce Center. There is no cost for these services and can also be used by current employees to polish their skills. We have completed installing six Virtual Access Systems in Encinal, Quemado, Leakey, Camp Wood, Brackettville, and Sabinal. We anticipate installing the other five systems in La Prior, Comstock, Rocksprings, Big Wells, and Utopia by November 2019.
